Skipton Church 1300

TOMB of George, 3rd Earl of Cumberland

Principal burial place of the Clifford's after dissolution of Bolton Priory 1540. 5 Earls of Cumberland, 3 of their Countesses, and 4 children buried there. Tombs defaced in Civil War and brasses removed. Repaired by Lady Anne and again restored by Duke of Devonshire 1867

Clifford Castle ruins, Hay on Wye

This is now in private hands so is not generally open but is still there

 

 

Croome Court, Worcestershire (National Trust)

Home of the Coventry family. George Coventry, 3rd Baron Coventry married Margaret Tufton who was a grandaughter of Lady Anne Clifford and daughter of John Tufton, Earl of Thanet.

Also, the ancestors of Stephen Clifford, our chairman, lived and worked on the estate since the 1600s

Pendragon Castle, Eden Valley

Said to have been built in 5th Century by Uther Pendragon for his son Arthur. Came to the Cliffords after marriage of Sir Roger Clifford & Isabella de Veteripont. Restored by Lady Anne Clifford 1661, where she spent Christmas 1663

Brougham Castle near Appleby

The keep and inner gatehouse. An insription above main entrance says "Thys made Roger (Roger, 5th Lord Clifford).

Lady Anne Clifford's mother died here 1616. Lady Anne died here 22 March 1676

The Countess Pillar near Brougham

Lady Anne Clifford erected this pillar in 1656 on the spot where she last said goodbye to her mother in 1616
